Peyote (Lophophora williamsii var. caespitosa) is a small spineless cactus that contains the psychedelic compound mescaline. Native to Southern Texas and Northern Mexico, these sacred cacti have been used by the indigenous peoples of North America in religious ceremonies for thousands of years.
